Grams and Gramps got Elias some wooden blocks to play with. This is his first crack at them. We are quite pleased that he is so easily entertained...

Relaxing at the Park
Memorial Day weekend is being good to us. The weather has suddenly turned sunny and beautiful. (The lighter-skinned of us has even gotten a bit of a sunburn...) We went to the park yesterday to soak up some rays.

Elias taking his first spin on a swing.

Taking a snooze on the grass. Mama and Papa served as great shade.

This isn't from the park or this weekend even, we just think it's funny. Elias' tummy rolls kept making his shirt ride up.

Chompers Have Arrived
Elias has teeth! We spotted one about a month ago, and the second one sprouted up the next week. He is now leaving bite marks in everything he can get his hands on. Mama is hoping (for her sake) that the top two take a little longer to arrive.

The photo isn't so good, but you'll never see them if we wait for a better one...

One Wild Rhody
Well, Port Townsend's Rhody Festival has worn us out enough that we can spend the next year recovering to do it all again. If you aren't from around here, you probably don't know what a big deal Rhody is - it's a big deal. Three parades in three days, not being able to go anywhere without running into everyone you've ever met in your whole life, and lots of extra events. (Thankfully Elias is young enough that we got out of a couple major events, including the carnival...)
It started off on Wednesday night with the trike races for kids. Elias and Victor went, and cheered on our friends Milo (2) and Emerson (4). Milo won, and Emerson got disqualified because his bike didn't have training wheels. Boo.
Thursday was the pet parade, which Elias loved. He sat on Victor's lap jumping up and down at the sight of hundreds of kids, adults and pets walking by in costumes. (It's pretty clear that some adults in this town like to dress up way more than their kid counterparts.) There were dogs, cats, goats, horses, llamas (I think), birds, the list goes on.
Friday was the Kiddie Parade - Elias watched with Victor and Grams. Again the adults clearly were trying to crash the party, but some of the costumes were hilarious. Our favorites were the all drum band, using blue recycling bins and pvc pipe as their instruments.
Saturday was the Grand Parade - Elias loved this one too. You would think a kid would tire of it all. He especially liked the marching bands and the lawn chair ladies (a drill team sort of outfit with lawn chairs).
And finally, Sunday was the Rhody Run, a 12k late-morning race that ends with beer. Rachel hasn't been running, and she didn't think Elias would sit in the stroller for as long as it may take her to walk it. But last minute Victor got a wild hair and decided to run it pushing Elias with his buddy Jason (pushing Emerson and Milo). He doesn't run, so Rachel was expecting some sort of disaster, but they finished in an hour and a half. Elias apparently loved that, too.
Today we are tuckered out, and will spend the week recovering with long naps and early bedtimes (fingers crossed on that.)

Elias and Asher at a Thursday night bbq.

Elias pre-parade basking in the attention of passersby.

Getting pumped up for the big event.

Checking out the lawn-chair ladies.

A few of of our favorite floats.
