A Day of Firsts

Elias is having a big day today. We went to his first library lap-sit storytime/sing-a-long. He was sleeping when we got there, so I wasn't sure he'd even know we went, but some kid started crying and Elias woke up. Apparently he decided it was interesting enough to stay awake. Funny enough, he spent most of the time eyeing the little girl next to us.

The other first is occurring as I write this. He is taking his first nap somewhere other than in someone's arms or in bed with us. That's right, this is monumental for Rachel. Elias is sleeping in a hammock that our friend Alex made for us after his son Asher started taking lengthy naps in one. This could mean real progress on the chore-front for Rachel. And personal hygiene. And blog updates. The possibilities are endless!

Elias wanted to wear real big boy pants the other day when we had several other babies over for brunch. (He didn't want to look like the youngest in an outfit with feet...)


We've been trying to capture a picture of him smiling forever. This doesn't really even do it justice - I think our camera has a bit too long of a shutter speed to get what I'm aiming for.

Whoops - Has It Been A Month Already?

Ok, I know I have some explaining to do...You see, there was a power outage, and then our computer simultaneously stopped working. Long story short, it took me three weeks to get on the ball to have it fixed.

January's been a big month for us - I'll try to do a brief re-cap of the major events.

Rachel and Elias went back to work part-time. Elias gets to come with, which actually works out great for Rachel. With all the ladies in the office clamoring to hang out with the coolest baby ever, Rachel gets a little break.

Victor had a birthday and the three of us went out for a nice dinner. Elias slept the whole time, and the grown-ups got to have adult beverages and conversation!

Elias has been given a clean bill of health! Since he was breech, he had hip dysplasia when he was born, meaning the ball and socket weren't quite functioning properly. After two trips to Seattle Children's for special ultrasounds, his hips (and the way his legs fit into them) have changed considerably, to have him well in the normal range. These trips were complete with a chaperone from Grandpa, who would stop at nothing to identify himself as such to anyone who even looked his way!

Other than that, Elias is doing all of the cool baby stuff - cooing, smiling, laughing. We are having a super time together.

Our baby is pretty granola. Grandma Patti made this one (and a full hat wardrobe of others).


Elias is getting much better at tummy time these days.
